Some 730 trains every day serve Reading station, taking passengers to destinations across the country. The complicated track layout at the station and limited platform space formed a bottleneck. This caused delays which sometimes mean that trains have to wait outside the station for a platform.

The station has undergone a transformation programme as part of the wider £850m Reading Improvement scheme.
