Charity Puts On a Spread at Thank You Party

Members of staff from across the Horbury Group attended a ‘thank you party’ organised by Work Ltd in Sheffield recently.

The Horbury Group has donated more than £50,000 to Work Ltd through a series of charitable programmes and events including a Great Horbury Bake Off and Virtual Work for a Day initiative, which raised over £16,000. The company has also taken part in Total Warrior, Dress Down Friday’s, Tuck Shop and team Golf Days.  It has also undertaken refurbishment works and modernisation of the classrooms.

Work Ltd, which will remain as Horbury Group’s nominated charity for the second year running, provides life skills and occupational training for people with learning disabilities in Sheffield and surrounding areas.

At the thank you event, staff from the Horbury Group got the chance to see the impressive Hidden Gem Café at Work Ltd and sample the ‘bistro style’ menu. The team also met with students of Work Ltd, who showcased the skills that they have acquired through training provided by the charity.

Chief Executive of Horbury Group, Trevor Wragg, said: “We would like to thank Work Ltd for putting on such a great party – the food, in particular, was wonderful! It was fantastic to attend the Hidden Gem Cafe and to hear how the money we have raised is being put to such good use helping local people to develop their life skills, build confidence and give them a better future.”

The Hidden Gem Café, off Ringinglow Road in Sheffield, is run by Head Chef Scott Philliskirk and staff and volunteers from Work Ltd.  It provides a friendly, encouraging environment for people with learning disabilities to develop their skills and self-esteem, work as waitresses and front desk staff.

The café is open Monday to Saturday, 9am – 4pm, serving bistro style food, which is freshly prepared on site and made from locally sourced ingredients.

The Horbury Group consists of eight companies and provides a complete national service to the construction industry, including full building interior fit out, refurbishment and maintenance. The company has regional offices in Rotherham, London and Cardiff and operates nationally.
